Principal's Message

July 2020

Hello and Welcome Lankershim Families,

It is our pleasure to welcome you to Lankershim Elementary, home of the Lions, for the 2020-2021 school year.

As we prepare for the first day of school on Monday, August 3rd, we would like to share important information.  Due to safety being first and foremost for all families and staff, the District will begin the new school year using the distance learning model. We are doing all that we can to offer a quality distance learning program that meets the educational, social-emotional and wellness needs of our students. Unlike the remote learning that we offered students in March, when schools in California suddenly closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, students will be required to participate daily, student work will be graded, and attendance will be taken Monday through Friday. Please be on the lookout for more detailed information that will be provided by our teachers.

Here is important information to help you prepare for a successful 2020-2021 school year:

Enrollment of new students and re-registration of ALL current students will be entirely online through the Aeries Parent Portal. Re-registration must be completed for all students returning to the District because it replaces the paper packets we ask parents to fill out at the start of every school year. Visit www.sbcusd.com/enrollment for more information and to get started. If you have questions and need technical assistance, please call (909) 891-1010 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.to 4 p.m.

If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to create an Aeries Parent Portal account by visiting sbcusd.com and select Aeries Parent/Student Portal under Parent Resources. This is where you can keep track of student attendance and academic progress. And, you’ll need an Aeries account to enroll and re-register students.

If your child does not have an electronic device with internet access, like an iPad or Chromebook, or if that device is not working, please call the Cybertech technical support hotline at (866) 223-8685.

Nutrition Services will continue providing breakfast and lunch to students twice a week at the existing meal distribution sites and we’re working to add more locations. Stay tuned for more details.

Stay connected to everything happening in the District by following SBCUSD on Facebook and Instagram; search for San Bernardino City USD.  Also, please follow Lankershim on Facebook and check out our school webpage for additional information. Additional site specific communication methods will be provided to you during the first week of school.

Although our school and office remain closed to the public, we will be monitoring our voicemail.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office at (909) 862-4213 and you will receive a return phone call within 1 business day.

Mrs. Daft and I would like to wish our students, families, and teachers a productive and safe 2020-2021 school year.  Thank you for entrusting us with the education of your children.

Sincerely,

M. Evette Peters

Dear Lankershim Parents/Guardians and Students,

Welcome to an exciting year at Lankershim Elementary School. It is an honor to serve as your principal.   At Lankershim, our goal is continual student improvement.  The teachers and the administrators have weekly staff development and collaboration meetings that focus on instructional improvement and high student achievement.  The staff and administrators will work together to provide rigor, scaffolding, and research-based instructional methods to help your child (ren) with the skills and knowledge needed to achieve academic success.

As Lankershim Lions, students are expected to learn, and will be given the tools in which to do so.  It is the administrative team’s expectation that each student does his/her best each day, so that he/she will demonstrate proficiency of the grade level standards, or beyond, and gain a quality education.  It is expected that all students exhibit appropriate behavior and follow school and classroom expectations at all times.  As a PBiS school, our goal is not only to continue to improve our student achievement, but also to teach our students how to be successful in life.  As such, we also teach and demonstrate how to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe through Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBiS).

In order for students to continue to excel, they must attend school regularly.  However, if your child is ill and must be absent, please send a note or call the school office within 5 days to clear the absence.

Parents are encouraged to stay actively involved in their children’s education by communicating regularly with the teachers in regards to their academic progress. Regularly discuss with your children what they have learned each day.  We value strong and positive home-school partnerships and encourage all parents/guardians to attend the parent meetings, so that you are aware of school site information and updates.  In addition,we welcome the ideas you have to continue to increase student achievement and excellent citizenship.  We are also hopeful that you attend family activities throughout the year.  Furthermore, we value any time you would be able to offer as a parent volunteer.  Please call or visit the office for additional volunteer information.

We are confident that your child (ren) will receive an exceptional education because providing academic excellence and student safety for your child (ren) are our top priorities.  The staff and I look forward to working as partners with you to provide a high-quality education for your children.

Thank you for choosing Lankershim Elementary School, the home of the Lions.  We look forward to an amazing year of success!

Sincerely,
